Sometimes in the course of analyzing Plymouth Brethren distinctives, beliefs, and teachings, I and whatever other authors there may be will need to talk about our own experiences. For people like me, having been raised in the movement, this will necessarily look like talking about experiences that involve our families and friends.
I want to be very clear that what we are addressing is not specific people (except in the case of clear abuse), but we are addressing a system that we believe to be damaging. It is possible and necessary to critique systems of belief without maligning the people who believe. I do not believe that everyone involved in the assemblies is an abuser, nor do I believe that everyone in the assemblies are being abused. But I do believe that the system itself if set up in such a way that it easily lends itself to abuse.
So please, if you take issue with what I or others may write, do not bring our families or friends into it. If you have something you want to say, you can say it here publicly in comments, or you can reach out to me through the contact form.
